First day at church

It was an exciting day for Tateym yesterday, as she attended church for the very first time.  Now, I know what you’re all thinking:  “Isn’t she 2 months old already?  Shouldn’t she have been to church by now?”  To that I say yes, she is 2 months old, and yes, she should have been to church already, but she hadn’t.  For the first month we didn’t dare take her anywhere public, then the weeks after that we had good intentions of making it but something would always happen (such as not sleeping on a Saturday night).  But why am I explaining myself to you?  We’re good people, I swear!

So the day started out well.  Tateym woke up at just the right time, had her bath, and was all dolled up just in time for church.  Then, as if that wasn’t good enough, she fell asleep in her car seat before we even had her in the car.  It was all going so perfectly as we sat down in the chapel, our little baby fast asleep and quiet as a mouse.  Then came the opening hymn and her eyes popped wide open.  She stared around with a look of “Where am I, and why on earth is everyone singing?”  Wide-eyed as she was though, she stayed pretty quiet throughout the meeting.

During Sunday School she got a bottle and a diaper change, and was all comfy and ready for Natalie to take her to Relief Society and show her off.  From there, Natalie describes it thusly:  “I walked in, got a bunch of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’, the lesson began, and Tateym started screaming.  I then spent the rest of the day in the Mothers’ Lounge, which smelled like poopy diapers.”  And so ended Tateym’s first day at church.

All-in-all it was a good experience.  The ward members were very happy for us and she got lots of compliments on how adorable she is.  I think we both gained a greater appreciation for what our parents went through getting us to church week after week.

  1. Good job guys! 🙂 What a cutie! Sounds like she did pretty good. Yes, I’m often in the halls with Luke…I swear that lately there are NO babies in relief society and it’s so quiet, so if he makes one noise I feel so out of place…so I take him out! I’ve only gone to the mother’s lounge to change a diaper. I can’t stand to sit in there otherwise…so you’re brave! 🙂

  2. I found you! Tateym looks so cute for her first day of church. We have so many babies in our ward, half of Relief Society is under 1 year old! Don’t worry, we either are all mothers, been there done that! Or wish we were mothers and want to do that! Babies belong at Church and in Relief Society! Sometimes in Priesthood too! It will get easier, and more natural for you. (don’t know where you get those cute little smiley faces like Aubrey H. Has!) Keep up the good job, nothing is more important than love and we know you have love running over the top of the bucket, so all is well.

  3. Oh my gosh, how did I miss this post? She is so freaking adorable. And she is huge! They grow so fast. I love the dress and the sweater, it is so baby chic. Congrats on your first day back at church, she is a little doll!!!
